A week on a peak

There is something very special about being out in the fresh air, in amongst greenery and surrounded by nothing but the beautiful british countryside.  One of my favourite places in Britain is the Peak District.  I love it for the hills and quirky little roads. I love the history of the stately homes and the crumbling houses within dry stone walled fields, where families once lived hundreds of years ago.

Having only recently got back from our trip I am already starting to miss the peaks again.  If anyone is thinking of taking a trip I highly recommend it. Definitely good for the soul and plenty to do.

I love films like Pride and Prejudice and The Duchess and love even more that they were filmed at Chatsworth house  (Pemberley) in the Peak District.

Wondering around Chatsworth on my own and when no one was looking I did pretend (just for a moment) that I went back in time. Cupping my hands on either side of my eyes like horses blinkers I pretended I was alone in the room; imagining what it would be like to live in that time.

Imagining waking up in one of the guest rooms in Chatsworth and looking at my clock to see what the time was and yup, if I had half the chance I would have even laid in this bed to gain the full effect!

Chatsworth House, The Painted hall

Do you remember in Pride and Predudice when Elizabeth Bennet walks through the sculpture room and ends up staring at Darcy's bust?

The film crew gave Darcy's bust to Chatsworth.  It is made of resin mixed with marble dust and was created by Nick Dutton in 2004 as a prop for the film.

Walking from Chatsworth house to the farmyard.

Chatsworth farmyard and adventure playground is the best I've ever been to. My 3 year old absolutely LOVED it!

Everywhere we went, monkey had to come with us!

Rudyard lake Steam railway

The Heights of Abraham have alpine style cable cars taking you up (VERY HIGH) to breath taking views of the Derwent Valley and surrounding Peak District.

The walks, the mines and MORE adventure playgrounds at The Heights of Abraham made it a great day out for everyone.
